Celidah grabbed the camera last night and ran outside telling me "I have to go and I'll be back in a second but I have to go now or I'll miss it." She left quickly and slammed the door. A few minutes she came in bouncing through the door. Smiling she gave me camera and with a excited voice told me to look at the pictures she just got.
These are awesome pictures for a 13 yr old amature photographer!
Here are the pictures she took while outside:

Breakfast with Santa
We had the first of our Christmas parties of the year. The kids hads fun in the begining. When we arrived Burger King had donated french toast and pancakes, they also had fruit, juice, cookies, and hot chocolate. In addition to this, there was a brass ensoble playing a variaty of Christmas and childrens songs. Once Sanra and Mrs. Santa arrived everyone lined up.

Request for Santa
Sometimes kids ask Santa for something they really want but in reality know the request is impossible. This is what happened for us on Friday. Jade asked Santa to bring her daddy home for 2 days so he could be home for Christmas.
Understanding the fact that her daddy is in Afghanistan and serving where he is needed right now he told Jade that bringing him home was impossible. However, what he did NOT know is that while she looks like a normal child and acts in many ways like a normal child, she is a child with autism. The other thing he could not have known is the emotional fallout she would face with being told her daddy coming home for Christmas is impossible.
While she KNEW this before hand, she at the same time did not fully realize this aspect. What she does not seem to understand is the travel time involved in one soldier taking leave. Just for the 2 weeks leave or even 2 days leave, there is the 7-10 travel each way. This would require 2-3 weeks leave just for 2 days of leave for one soldier to be gone for a couple days. Physically, an impossible task to allow the soldiers to go home for Christmas as the work there does not stop just because Christmas is celebrated on the 25th.
Once we left the party we talked about the importance of their father staying at work there in Afghanistan due to his leadership position. We also talked about the soldiers that need him there. There are 24 total in the group so he is in a team and everyone needs to work together to help each other. We also talked about how we help each other here, and how this year is his turn to help others during this Christmas season.

Today the kids had a special reception at the Wildlife Experience www.TheWildlifeExperience.org
for the Nurturing Nature: Growing Young Colorado Artists exibit.
The Wildlife Experience is proud to exhibit student artwork through our Nurturing Nature: Growing Young Colorado Artists program. This program encourages students to share with the community their appreciation of wildlife and nature through the visual arts. Each year, over 200 pieces of artwork done by young artists, in collaboration with area schools, will be displayed. It is here that an appreciation for art and nature converge. Students grow individually, but also learn about the importance of caring for all living things in our community - and on our planet.
November 2, 2010 - January 2, 2011 - Colorado Virtual Academy
The kids were so excited to arrive and be greeted as official artists. Then even more excited to be able walk down the hall showing off the artwork and find theirs being displayed. Once they got done looking at the artwork, then had a snack, they participated in the craft activity. They all enjoyed making the bear claw necklaces then had a blast exploring the Wildlife Experience Museum. The place is amazing! They can't wait to return.

Band/Orchestra Concerts
Last Night was Celidah’s band concert. She really did a great job especially since she played double the normal amount of songs that she would play. This is because she played percussion for the 7th grade, then stayed on stage and played for the 8th grade band.
Considering she played for two classes, she did amazing.
Tonight for orchestra she played the percussion part for the 7th grade orchestra Dragon Slayer piece, the bounced between percussion and her violin with the 8th grade orchestra. She seemed to have playing both parts. Additionally, she was the only one to have her song introduction part memorized tonight. All the other children read their parts. She was nervous reciting her introduction, but did a great job

"Fixing" Father's Day
Today for Zach’s language lesson, we were discussing special holidays as proper nouns and sentence structure. One of Zach’s sentences he needed to help fix was:
In June we celebrate father’s day.
Well he knew that Father’s Day was the holiday and the proper noun that needed fixing. So I asked him “How do we fix Father’s Day?” Before he could even answer Chantelle proudly told him “by fixing breakfast for daddy!”
Zach replied, “No! you fix the F and the D.”
Chantelle replied back, “But daddy needs breakfast on Father’s Day.”
Zach: “But the D and the F have to be capital letters!”
Chantelle: “You can’t fix Father’s day with letters!” and stomps off.
Zach confused by this point, “Mom, I need to fix the D and F with capital letters not breakfast to make the sentence right, right?”
At this point trying not to laugh at my 1st grader and preschooler with two very different thought processes I let Zach know he had found the correct words to fix in his sentence.

Discovering New Words
Sunday at church I was TRYING to keep Zach occupied. So I opened the hymnal and was helping him pick out words I knew he could read. The we came across a new word for him Je-sus and we started to sound it out. j-ee ss-u -s j -eee sss US JEEE sss US Finally, he figured out the word was Jesus!
Total excitement covered his face and of course he just had to give me a big high 5!
Soon he was digging through the hymnal looking through every song finding and counting every Jesus he could. Soon his excitetment was almost more than his little excited body could contain. Try as he might his quiet whisper was no longer a soft whisper, but a loud harsh whisper. His little started bouncing up and down on the metal chair, and his feet soon started to echo loud thumps as his feet crashed into legs with each new word. Soon I started seeing eyes looking back as he tried oh so hard to sit still, and whisper quietly that he had found yet another Jesus in the book.
Suddenly, Jesus was forgotten about when "Away in the Manger" was discovered! "Wow look mom this song is simply filled with words I do know!" He nearly shouted. Soon he was back to whispering in his loud harsh excited voice, only this time joined by Chantelle who knew a few of the words.
Reading is so exciting when a new book is discovered, and words begin exploding off the pages right before your eyes!
