First Full Day Home

Today was the first full home with the puppy and she did much better. Once all the kids left she was not quite sure how to handle the house being so quiet. This was a great time for me to spend time with her. We played, walked, I brushed her. I discovered which she likes and which one scares her. She loves the wooden brush with soft bristles yet hates the one with the short metal bristles.

Eve (her nick name) did so much better eating today and had very few accidents in the house. She has conquered running up with minimal falling up (or down) the stairs now. However, she is still terrified of going down the stairs. Once the kids started coming home from school she was really happy because got to play even more.

Part of my day once again was spent rearranging and cleaning more to make sure she did not get cords, or other things we do not want chewed up. For now I have rolled up the carpet that Frank bought while in Afghanistan as she has decided that rug especially is perfect for chewing on.

She has discovered that some of the bigger dog toys from before she still likes and will try to play with or chew on. We have this HUGE cow bone that was not used before and I was holding onto to either give to someone else with a dog or in case we got another dog. Well now that we have a puppy she has decided this bone is not to big for her. The funny thing is, this bone is way bigger than she is and will not move when she tries to tug and pull on it. LOL this I know will not last as there will come a time when she will be able to pick a bone this size up and carry it where ever she wants.

She has also started chasing balls. If we gently toss the ball and call her as soon as the ball is in her mouth she will bring it back. If we call her before the ball is in her mouth she will grab the ball and plop down and try to chew on the ball, or pick it up and try running away further.

Watching her run is funny as her coordination is still lacking. Also Spirit is not leery of the dog and is now more curious of this new creature. When she is sleeping he will actually walk by not realizing he is walking by. Then if he suddenly sees her there he will jump off to the side. He has come up to her several times today to smell and investigate her. Also a couple times when Eve went into the kitchen he would walk down the hall and lay on the floor in front of the door where he could watch what she was doing or going to do.

Overall a very good day and all are starting to settle into the new routines.

Our Newest Family Member

Meet Evelyn Margaret our newest family member. She is a pure bred German Shepherd puppy and is about 8 weeks old and AKC registered. She is such a sweet heart and already LOVES the kids. The funniest part about her right now is every time she eats or drinks she looks around and whines with every bite looking for her brothers and sisters as she is not yet used to being able to eat alone. She is used to having to fight for every bite of food.

By the way look how tiny she is for now...
For right now she can fit under the bed and under the futon. However, Spirit (the cat) is not sure what to think of her. Earlier today he stood his ground and swiped while hissing (yet did not touch her) yet she let out the loudest yelping and crying. One would have thought he had tried killing the poor puppy. She had no idea how to react to the cat.
She has now learned that when this cat arches his back, puffs out his fur to get back and back away. She still yelps and whines and cries. Funniest is this cat is big, but when arched and fur fluffed he is like a porcupine and looks SO much bigger than he really is.
Well after playing and working on figuring out how to climb the staring the new puppy dog Evelyn Margaret is soundly sleeping in her crate that for the moment is so very big for her. However, this crate will soon be barely big enough for her. We are already working on the crate training with her so she learns that is her sleeping spot.

MD Raven's Play What Now???

ok it is very clear tonight that we have not exposed the kids to much in the way of sports. Zachariah was sent home with a homework assignment to draw a picture of the MD Ravens doing something football related. What he has created is them winning a football/baseball/soccer cross miss match kinda game.

Sigh... I guess to complete the miss match all he needed was lacrosse and golf in there too...
