73rd Annual Sturgis ® Motorcycle Rally, August 5-11

Heading to Mount Rushmore we passed through Sturgis and discovered on the way that their annual motorcycle rally just happened to be going on the same week we were going to be passing through and this years rally was expecting over 600,000 motorcycles. This is a sight our children have never seen (or heard) before in their life.

This was the 73rd rally and our 1st. For the most part our drive through Strugis was uneventful even with the very slow going traffic. We did see a couple "mermaids." Well the boys did not... One of our daughters was very careful to make sure her brothers did not look up as we drove past the strip club girls and other barely dressed girls. How could they dress like that in public and be comfortable? The girls asked us several times.

These questions lead into a discussion about proper dress styles with all the kids and how modest clothing not only is not only what we have been asked to wear but also protects from the sun.
